Mishoon Coming Soon to Wainer Woods
Ross, Nate, and Aaron from WLCT with Michael Sullivan from WRWA at Amy and Bill Tripps moving the mishoon to Handy House for the Artisan Fair at Westport Historical Society to display for Wainer Woods.
In the summer of 2023, Peter Crawley and Merri Cyr coordinated a mishoon burn with the Westport Land Conservation Trust, The Westport River Watershed Alliance and the Trustees at the Westport Town Farm. For a week folks from the Mashpee and Nipmuc tribes worked day and night to hollow out an enormous tree by means of fire and create a traditional mishoon. Andre led the burn and did a fantastic job with his crew. The mishoon will find its new home at Wainer Woods and be available to view on tour dates resting in a small pond on the property.
